Changing face of middle management (esp. in tech-driven companies).

The trend is happening via a few different avenues: 

1) Age Discrimination 

2) Making companies "less fat" - eliminating layers as a means of streamlining hierarchies as well as for cutting expenses (salaries and benefits). I worked for a company in the 90s (Miller Freeman)that had more employees under three years of service as well as those with 10+ years as compared to those with 3- 10 years. Same principle. 

3) "Their jobs are also relocating—without them—to lower-cost locations both within the U.S. and in other countries."We are seeing this in the Bay Area (tech economy) where the cost of doing business, let along cost of living, is excessive.
