Resume Errors / Mistakes

As a business owner of a resume writing service, I have been customized resumes and letters for professionals across all job classifications and market categories for 10+ years. I have read fundamentally-sound resumes, text driven and graphically-designed, as well as resumes that should never have been submitted due to strategic, positioning, grammar and formatting errors.

Here is a sampling of common errors:

1. Document does not factor in ATS "best practices"

2. Document does not factor "ageism"

3. Document contains misspelled words

4. Documents that have email addresses that are "unprofessional" or use older domains (hotmail.com / aol.com)

5. Documents without inclusion of bonafide successes

6. Documents that exceed two (2) pages

7. Documents without "keywords / core skills"8

8. Documents that are too general and do not target a specific job / job classification

If your resume cannot pass the "test" provided by the eight (8) line items above, you need to revisit your resume.
