More scam stuff

Unfortunately there’s a new scam on this site targeting job seekers. It works like this:

You find a job listing and apply the system asks for your phone number, email, and full street address. Every job posting ask for this information; you think nothing of it.

A few days later you get an email to your personal email. ‘Hey, I liked your resume but we’ve filled the position. I’ve got a contact elsewhere, here’s their email.’ You respond to both, and now they know you ARE Allan Brown, this IS your email, AND you’re active on it.

More days later you get an email claiming someone has put malware on your phone, they’ve been tracking you all across the internet, they’re going to possibly show up at your house, possibly blackmail you for all the dirty sites you’ve been to and splash your face around all your contacts. It paints a grim and humiliating picture.

Luckily it’s pure BS. I don’t have the camera setup he talks about in the email, and I don’t visit those sites.

If you get this email, don’t open the attachment, use your common sense, all the rest of that.

To employers, I do wish y’all would just ask for a zip code to identify where we live. That should give you the information you’re looking for without making a system where candidates are constantly giving out a lot of personal information. Not because you’re doing something nefarious, but because we live in the age we live in, and this sort of thing happens all the time.
