Headhunters estimate that only 5% of open positions are filled by people who just send in their resumes.  Therefore, if you think that surfing Indeed, Glassdoor, LinkedIn, et al. and blasting your resume is "conducting a job search", think again.  You need to find the right balance between:

1. Networking
2. Company Websites
3. Professional Organizations
4. Alumni Groups
5. Staffing Agencies / Recruiters

And however you choose to manage your mix, always follow-up.
