During stressful times, office rumors run rampart.  Do not become part of the gossip chain. You don't know what's happening with your individual position until your boss informs you of the situation / your status. Do not jeopardize your standing; after all, you may be one of the people that would survive the layoff.  However, if you become "poison", you are likely to be asked to leave.
