Volunteer Work

While many employers are indicating that they want to see volunteer work on the resume during periods of extended unemployment, I prefer only to add "relevant" volunteer work on the resume.  In other words, find a correlation between the volunteer work that you did and your previous career / career direction.  This experience will showcase your desire to keep your skills sharp during this period.
