There are many companies that practice this axiom as part of there hiring practices. Oracle happens to be a prime example in the Bay Area. Simply stated, sometimes companies "want" you to leave so you can learn another methodology, then recruit you back at a higher salary because you have more to offer. An old employer of mine (Miller Freeman - magazine publisher) did the same thing.
