Tech Layoffs - Perspective
When tech began its ascend 30+ years ago, the talk was about automation and how tech would eliminate jobs. Well, that conversation has gone full circle with artificial intelligence (AI).
With that said, what took so long for tech companies to trim the fat like they have the last 180 days? Well, it is pretty simple, tech became "obese" and incapable of maximizing profits unless that "got lean and mean".
Companies that have had to handle large layoffs have done so because they over-hired based on special initiatives that have under-performed, have a slower go-to-market process or were just plain unsuccessful. But do not discount poor performance by employees given lax WFH rules, lack of training (company / colleges) and bloated salaries as big reasons for the cutbacks.
