Layoffs in March:

 Layoffs in March:

Layoffs in March surpassed 275,000, a near-recording setting figure topped only by those for April and May 2020, when the pandemic shut down much of the economy, according to data released Thursday by the outplacement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas. The Department of Government Efficiency, which is working to shrink the government, was responsible for the vast majority of the cuts. While other jobs data remained stable, federal layoffs for the month were up 672% from a year prior.
