Bad Advice - Cover Letters
"You do not need a cover letter - nobody reads them anymore"...
WRONG!!!!
Failure to dedicate time and thought to writing a cover letter could result in disqualification.
If you are conducting a job search, you better have a cover letter available that you can revise depending on the qualifications of each job. If you do not have a letter to submit and the hiring manager wants to see a resume and cover letter, guess who is not getting a call back...YOU!
I have listened to people talk about cover letters since I started my career. Those that pontificate that no one writes letters either:
1. Don't want to read one
2. Have a hard time writing one
Your default - always submit a cover letter unless the hiring manager indicates "Resume Only". Do not fall into that ridiculous trap.
