Take some time to define your long term and immediate goals. Focus on the task at hand - do not concentrate on channels, while easier, will produce minimal results (i.e. Twitter). Craft a plan for using LinkedIn but remember to attend important networking functions. Get out of the house and MEET PEOPLE. Be sure to follow-up with all those who you meet during the process.
