With hiring season rapidly approaching, many of you
are contemplating your next career move. I have send many articles to my
LinkedIn database about many topics related to job search (i.e. Salary,
Negotiation, Interviewing – all of which are posted on my LinkedIn
Profile page in the Box.net feature).
The information below pertains to a recent study of 2,300 new hires. The
line of questioning was directed at what they WISHED they knew about
the new company (i.e. culture, managerial style) BEFORE they accepted
new employment. The study, conducted by Development Dimensions
international (DDI), indicated that only 51% of new hires reported that
they were confident that they had made the right decision about making a
career move to the new employer.
The complaints of the new hires included:
• Turnover rate for the position
• True travel requirements
• Actual hours
• The actual state of corporate finances
• Wish they inquired about the existence of a job description
• More information about team structure and dynamics
Of those who had received information that they deemed satisfactory, 78%
stated that they had no inclination to leave the new employer in the
near term.
So, when you are interviewing, take these issues into consideration and
incorporate them into your line of questioning, along with Inc.
