Job Boards Continue to Loss Traction

Employers are finding that their HR staffs are dedicated far too much time screening resumes secured from job boards (i.e. Monster, CareerBuilder). The number of applicants is too big for their recruiters and hiring managers to handle, creating operational efficiencies. A big complaint that I have heard is that 50%+ of the applicants are not qualified for the jobs of which they are applying. Therefore, 24% of companies plan to decrease their usage of third-party employment websites and job boards this year, according to a December survey from the Corporate Executive Board Co., a business consulting firm.

The strategy that will be utilized by hiring managers changes the landscape of job search. Candidates can no longer discount social media as a powerful job search tool. In short, if you want to be in the “game”, you better have an updated profile on LinkedIn and you better expand your search to include targeting specific companies and visiting their respective website(s).
