It is inevitable but during the interview process, you will be asked "What is your expected salary?"

Recommedation: Do your research about the salary range PRIOR to the meeting. During the meeting, give a broad range so you are not disqualified because your demands could be higher if you provide a specific number. At this stage, it is ok to be purposely vague.

However, if you are pressed for a dollar amount, you could say that you did your search and that you believe your skills are deserving of someone with the same experience who is making $xxxxx in pay, plus a competitive benefits package.
