The overwhelming majority of resume writers insist on putting the LI profile address on the resume. On the surface, it makes sense. However, here is my rule of thumb:
1. Unless the LI profile is updated to be consistent with the resume (not a copy / paste) but the content is clearly aligned with the resume, DO NOT put your LI profile link.
Justification: 900+ LI profiles have come off my desk since I started this business. I can safely say 60% - 75% of the profiles are inconsistent with the new resume BEFORE the updated was completed.
- Inconsistent Job Titles
- Inconsistent Employer Names
- Inconsistent Dates of Employment
- Inconsistent Success Stories
- Inconsistent Educational / Certifications, etc.
Get the point! When a hiring manager / recruiter views the inconsistencies, it a a HUGE NEGATIVE!
Therefore, do not showcase the URL unless the content is consistent across both platforms (resume and LI).
