Don't openly post your résumé on a job board.
Since the dawn of job boards, employers have scanned job boards searching for their employees' résumés—usually by searching their own company's name, says Joyce. And when they spot that their star employee is open to new opportunities, that worker often ends up in hot water. "So, while posting a résumé in a site like Indeed is a very smart move, your identity needs to be protected and your current employer's name needs to be disguised," says Joyce. "When possible, block your name from being visible, and definitely disguise your company's name!" For example, if you work for IBM, instead write, "Fortune 25 multinational IT company" or another accurate-but-vague description.
