During the intermittent period, enroll in professional development courses / certification classes as a means of building up important career-related skills. Attend networking events (in-person or virtual) and include your participation in your resume and / or cover letter.
By showcasing that you were not sitting home watching talk shows, you will be demonstrating to hiring managers / recruiters your dedication to career development.
