How to handle a bad job title

 Job Titles.

Companies get "cute" with job titles, esp. start-ups. The job title "Evangelist" and "Guru" mean nothing in the scheme of salary administration and are so vague that most people have no idea what the incumbent does for a living.

If you were unfortunate enough to earn the title of "Relationship Guru", which means nothing, but your actual responsibility are that of a "Customer Engagement Director", then use this format for your resume:

Relationship Guru (Customer Engagement Director), name of company, City, ST; DATE
