Non-Compete Agreements (Reversing a long standing practice)

Non-Compete Agreements (Reversing a long standing practice)

Are non-compete agreements on their last leg? The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) decried non-compete agreements, saying they violate the National Labor Relations Act. The recent memo to agency leaders from NLRB General Counsel Jennifer Abruzzo said broad non-competes prevent employees from exercising their rights to "engage in collective action to improve their working conditions," HR Dive reported. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) proposed a ban on non-compete agreements in January. The FTC argues the agreements suppress wages and competition. Employers say non-competes help protect vital business information. Supporting employees say a ban would improve career opportunities.
