Job Title Definitions
For the foreseeable future, I will be posting 2x / day; one of the postings will be a job search tip. The second will be about job titles. Sounds boring, perhaps it is. But I will tell you that job titles are important and it is a difference maker in terms of pay, upward mobility, authority, prestige and more.
All of you need to be aware of what a job title truly means.
SALES ENGINEER
Sales engineers sell complex technological products or services to businesses. Sales Engineers prepare and deliver technical presentations explaining products or services to existing and prospective customers. Talk with customers and engineers to assess equipment needs and to determine system requirements and then plan / modify products to meet customer needs. Sales engineers also can hold post-sales responsibilities (installations, migrations, conversions). Lastly, in many cases, sales engineers will have revenue expectations that include the initial sales as well as upselling responsibilities.
