Job Title Definitions
For the near future, I will be posting 2x day. The morning post will be job search related advice, the lunch time (PT) will be about job titles and definitions. Sounds boring, it is. But I will tell you that job titles are important and it is a difference maker in terms of pay, upward mobility, authority, prestige and more.
All of you need to be aware of what a job title truly means.
HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGER
Human resources managers plan, coordinate, and direct the administrative functions of an organization. HR Managers oversee the recruiting, interviewing, and hiring of new staff as well as employee benefits, salary administration, non-union (and sometimes union / labor management relations), performance management, learning and development and other related functions.
Mostly recently, technology companies have embraced the term “People Operations Manager” for the responsibilities that are commonly held by the Human Resources Manager. This is a continued evolution of the role, which going back to the 60’s and 70’s, when the role was known as the Personnel Manager who managed the Personnel Department.
